Piping & Repiping Process
Repiping is a major service, and while we understand that you almost certainly have some questions, we feel we can answer many of them with this simple explainer of the repiping process. Of course, we encourage you to call if you have any further questions or would like more information.
Proposal & Site Inspection Phase
During the initial site visit we will outline the details of the project and what is included as well as answer any questions or address any concerns you may have. We may also make suggestions intended to improve the general performance or aesthetics of the home plumbing system, such as adding a water filtration system, circulation system, or other replacement.
Once we determine how much of your home we will be repiping, we start the process of laying out your new plumbing. Proper routing of the lines helps improve functionality of the system. Your estimator will walk through the home with you and point out what areas will be affected, where we will be making wall openings and so on.
This is where you have perhaps the greatest impact on your repipe process by preparing your home for our crew’s presence. Clearing clutter and obstructions out of spaces where our crews will be working will save time and make the cleanup process easier after the fact. It also helps to remove delicate or breakable things from cabinets, countertops, and other areas where they might be damaged.
On the day of installation, our crew will arrive in the morning to begin work. They will lay down protective sheeting and paper, and they’ll begin making drywall openings for your new lines. It's at this point the full impact of the work will become apparent; don't panic! We've been here many times before and can assure you everything is under control. We've found it helpful to remind yourself at this stage, drywall is an easily repairable material and living without fear of your pipes is worth it.
Once all of the new valves and supply lines are connected, we pressurize your system to check for leaks. When we are completely satisfied, everything is watertight and in good working order, we begin cleaning up. However, your walls and ceilings will temporarily have holes in them for a little longer.
All cities in Orange County require repipe jobs to be permitted, meaning they must be inspected after the fact. Severson Plumbing Inc. will make arrangements to get the permit and schedule the initial inspection. The inspection process requires two site visits from the City, and the first happens at this point—when the job is finished but before the walls are closed up. This allows the inspector to see our work and know that it is done correctly.
Once your initial inspection is completed and signed off, our crew returns to repair your walls and ceilings. This may take a few days to complete, but your walls will be sealed and safe again when we’re finished. We do not subcontract our drywall work to ensure everything lives up to our standard of quality, and we do offer painting services at competitive prices as well.
Final Completion & Inspection
Because the city considers drywall to be a fire barrier, a city inspector must sign off on these major drywall repairs. You, the homeowner, will be required to make arrangements for your final inspection. Once your final inspection is completed, we will send a technician to your home to do one final walkthrough and ensure that everything looks and functions the way it is supposed to. Once this is complete, your project is finished!
